The Emakumeak Zientzian initiative took its first steps in 2017 and year after year has grown and strengthened. The United Nations General Assembly decided in 2016 to proclaim 11 February as the International Day of Women and the Girl Child in Science in order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. In this context, Women in Science emerged to make visible the activity of women in science, break with the typically masculine roles attributed to scientific-technical activities, and encourage the choice of scientific careers among girls and adolescents.
To this end, a broad programme of activities is promoted, organized, developed, presented and implemented. The Emakumeak Zientzian 2024 programme will focus on the week of 8-16 February. An extensive programme of over 60 activities has been designed, covering the three historic territories for the first time: “We want to make a special appeal and invite all people, regardless of their gender, identity, origin, profession or age, to participate in the activities”, indicate from the organization of Emakumeak Zientzian.
Sardon group researchers are taking part in the program in the following events:
- February 9th / La ciencia sí es cosa de chicas with our PhD student Marta Mestre
- February 14th / El poder de la experiencia: Polymat with our researcher doc. Marta Ximenis
