We are so proud to announce that the 3Dam2025, directely oganized by SardonLab team, was a great success!
Organized by Haritz Sardon (POLYMAT-UPV/EHU, Spain), Eva Blasco (HEIDELBERG University, Germany) and Timothy Long (Arizona State University, USA), the inaugural edition of the Conference Series on Additive Manufacturing of Soft Materials, was held in San Sebastiรกn between October 6th and October 10th, 2025.
The conference focusing on AM of soft materials assembled diverse communities of researchers from both academia and industry. It covered a broad scope of angles from new printing technologies and the integration of digital design to multiscale simulations, artificial intelligence and machine learning, multimodality manufacturing methods, material development, multi-material printing, composite manufacturing, and performance engineering materials.
The conference included plenary talks by Prof. David Mecerreyes / POLYMAT, Spain, Prof. Sandra Van Vlierberghe / University of Ghent, Belgium, Prof. Martin Wegener / KIT, Germany, Prof. Emily Davidson / University of Princeton, USA, Prof. Tao Xie / Zhejiang University, China.
In addition to premier talks by leading experts worldwide, it dedicated a special day, Monday 6 October, to young scientists with the Young Researchers Symposium to facilitate the collaboration between a new generation of scientists working in AM technologies. The day concluded in the evening with the Young Aperitif and two prizes were assigned to the best talks.
The event was held in two locations in San Sebastian: the Main Conference program in Palacio Miramar and the Young Researchers Symposium in Centro Carlos Santamaria. The main conference included a Poster Session with Welcome Cocktail on Tuesday evening, with 5 prizes dedicated to poster presenters.
More than 20 sponsors were supporting the conference on different levels and with different kinds of support. A special session was dedicated to industrial lectures, to encourage networking and the exchange of knowledge within the scientific and industrial community.
The event involved more than 40 invited speakers, 50 oral presentations and 30 poster communication, with a total of around 180 participants. With a good gender balance (54% male and 46% female), half participants were coming from Spain and half from abroad, mostly Europe, with 15 participants from USA, 5 from Asia, 2 from Australia and 1 from Africa.
Different social activities were included in the registration fee and were particularly appreciated. Between then, a city tour of San Sebastian, a pintxos tour in the city centre, and of course the Gala Dinner where all participants could enjoy themselves and develop their network and collaborations.
We can’t thank enaugh the great SardonLab team that worked hard to make the conference smooth and enjoyable for all participants!
The organizing committee is already receiving much positive feedback about the event, and we are looking forward for the next edition in 2027! The second edition will be curated by Riccardo Levato (Uthrect University, Netherlands), Emily Pentzer (Texas A&M University, USA) and Cristophe Moser (EPFL, Switzerland). See you in 3Dam2027!
